Building a website comes with plenty of design choices. Sometimes, it helps to have a little inspiration from design experts when you’re thinking about launching a new site or updating your current look.
To help you along the way, we tapped some of our favorite design experts. In this series, Bold/Basic, we asked designers to highlight two of their favorite recent design trends: a bold one to help you stand out, and one that they love even if someone might call it basic.
In this edition, Senior Designer Jaclyn McKay shares her thoughts on the design trends she’s loving right now as well as one of her guilty pleasures. Check out the video above or read the transcript below to learn about her current favorite website layout and the “basic” trend she just can’t quit.
Transcript:
One trend that I think is really bold that I've been seeing is more editorial approaches to layouts. So I love when a website feels like a fancy magazine—like there's big chunks of type with images interjected in line with the text.
I know it's gonna sort of get old fast but for now I'm enjoying the moment and I think it feels very bold.
Millennial pink still has a place in my heart because I think it looks so nice with big, bold typography over a light soft color. I have trouble giving it up—know it's basic, but it's my guilty pleasure.
