Building a website comes with plenty of design choices. Sometimes, it helps to have a little inspiration from design experts when you’re thinking about launching a new site or updating your current look.
To help you along the way, we tapped some of our favorite design experts. In this series, Bold/Basic, we asked designers to highlight two of their favorite recent design trends: a bold one to help you stand out, and one that they love even if someone might call it basic.
In this edition, Creative Director Cerra Buckholz shares her perspective on the design trends she’s loving right now as well as one of her guilty pleasures. Check out the video above or read the transcript below to learn what she thinks about CTA buttons and what makes her mad about emojis.

I’m down with the organic shapes. All those years, people were like, “People won’t know it’s a button unless it’s a square with a drop shadow that says, ‘Click here’.” You know, I think you can make that a little more organic shaped. People understand the internet, people understand a lot of where you’re trying to go. So I think you can be be bold with some of that stuff, you don’t have to follow all of the rules.
I think it’s basic that there’s no ginger emojis. There’s only the one that’s just the girl with the bob haircut for all ethnicities. But the facepalm one, that’s all I want, is a ginger facepalming because that is all I want to use ever. And because I’ve never gotten to use it, I think it’s basic. But if they made it, then I might be back on emojis.
